This life of mine

So, I was sitting in the library and it hit me. Holy crap, I'm almost a sophomore in college. You see, school is almost out for summer break (three more weeks!).
As cool as this is, it really made me think about life and I have come to this conclusion. Life is freakin short.
I mean like really really short. I remember moving in to the dorms last year and thinking, "I am going to be here forever..." and I look back and guess what? It has FLOWN by. Literally every day is a blur of studying, eating, chilling, more studying, Christian fellowship, and sleeping. I really don't remember what I had for breakfast two days ago. That's how fast it is, but I digress.
This simple thought of how short life is really made me think, "What am I doing that is worthwhile?". Am I doing anything that I will carry with me when I die, or am I just living for today and getting my kicks off of doing what I want to do. Sadly many times I pick the latter. As I pondered this though, a verse popped in my mind.
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." —Matthew 6:19,20
This verse is extremely convicting for me because of two things, it shows us how little the things we do and store up for our own pleasure count in the long run, and how valuable our time on earth is.
God gave us this life to live for HIS glory, not in pursuit of ours. So many times we set our sites on what we get to do next Friday or Saturday, and not on what we can do for Christ today.
My prayer should be "Lord, help me set my focus on heaven today" every day I wake up. This is so hard to do, but I think it is vital if we are to live a victorious Christian life.
God has called us to be different, let's live like it.
